The manuscript is dedicated to Giuliano de’ Medici, the future Duke of Nemours, as documented by the repetition in its papers of the Medici coat of arms and family emblems, such as the flaming broncon with roses, the diamond ring, the radiant sun and the laurel.

The nautical charts of the two codices Ricc. 3615 – 3616 are contained in splendid bindings; that of Ricc. 3615, in red morocco leather on boards, bears on the plates a very rich decoration embossed in gold and mosaic, depicting an architectural sculpture. In the guard paper appears the coat of arms of a Medici cardinal, probably Ferdinando. Ricc. 3616, bound in leather and yellow morocco on boards, with very rich ornaments stamped in gold with small guilloche irons, has the coat-of-arms of the Martelli family in the centre.
