Following an introduction to the history of the Library by its Director, Roberta Masini, visitors will be guided through several of the Library’s remarkable historic rooms: the Exhibition Hall, the Director’s Room—where two important Renaissance songbooks will be on display—and finally the Reading Room, with its magnificently frescoed ceiling by Luca Giordano.
As was customary during receptions held by the Riccardi family—one of the wealthiest and most influential families in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany—the two doors connecting the Reading Room to the Palace’s former state room, the Hall of Mirrors (now part of the Palazzo Medici Riccardi museum itinerary), will be opened. Here, a short concert will take place.
Tracing the music preserved in manuscripts Ricc. 2356 and Ricc. 2794, the programme offers a brief yet evocative overview of the musical tastes shared among the leading European courts of the time—including some of the most popular “hits” of the period, widely circulated across the continent.
The manuscripts Riccardiano 2356 and Riccardiano 2794 have been fully digitised and are available for consultation in the Teca Digitale of the Biblioteca Riccardiana in Florence:
